Item Description: Original box of Venus Sanitary Napkins – blue box edged in the original color of the cardboard. Branding says “Venus” in bold script logo font and below it “sanitary napkins.” on two sides. The other two sides say “of fine quality real cotton.” The top of the box has an illustration of the statue of Venus de Milo with the phrase “perfect” over the top of the illustration. Below this the text reads “to enjoy fullest comfort with Venus sanitayr napkins we suggest a Venus Sanitary Belt, and Apron or Bloomer.” Box 1 remains sealed with a “factory Sealed” blue sticker covering the left and right box edges. Box 2 is open, when the box is open 12 pads are visible inside. Pads have yellowing from age. Both boxes have some swelling from water damage.
Exact date unknown, but this box in our collection matches designs sold in the 1940s and is likely from that period.

Venus Corporation ran advertisements in newspapers as well as women’s and girls’ magazines as early as 1920 for their sanitary items including Venus Sanitary Napkins. Venus sold multiple menstrual care items including sanitary aprons, sanitary bloomers, sanitary petticoats, and more.
