What Makes Poppins Period Disc Unique – Overview of Features
One Size Fits Most. The Poppins Period menstrual disc is on the larger side of “one size” menstrual discs. Because discs sit in a larger part of the body, the vaginal fornix, most people can use a disc that is in a range of 65-70 mm in diameter. Poppins Period is 70 mm, the same size as Nixit.
Generous capacity of 48 ml means the Poppins Period Disc works well for users with a heavy period. Poppins Period lists the capacity as 48 ml, we did our own measurement and found it can hold 60 ml if measuring all the way to the top rim.
Removal Handle – The Poppins Period disc has a flat removal handle attached to the front rim. This can be hooked by a finger or pinched.
Soft Firmness. The firmness score for Poppins Period Disc is a 2.5 on our scale of 1-5, with 5 being the firmest. This puts it around the same firmness as Nixit. Firmness is always a subjective measurement for menstrual cups and discs. The rating was done by squeezing each product and comparing them one by one. Poppins Period Disc is a 2.5, softer than other discs from Hello Disc, Flex, Cora, and Saalt.
How Poppins Period Disc Compares to Other Brands
This new disc is a nice addition to the available one size menstrual disc brands in the US. It’s similar to Hey Zomi (not available in the US) with the removal handle, but larger. Similar to the flat removal handle of Diva Disc, but larger and round versus oval. The basket is thin and flexible like Flex Disc and Nixit. It’s soft in firmness (2.5/5) like the AllMatters Disc or Nixit. Poppins Period Disc is softer and has a larger diameter than Hello Disc. The looped handle on the Poppins Period Disc angles backwards so it doesn’t add extra length for those with a high cervix – a longer loop or stem would still be best if you have a high cervix.

Best Way to Insert Poppins Period Disc
Fold your disc lengthwise in half making sure the handle is centered.
Insert the disc (handle side enters last) while pointing it towards your tailbone – this makes sure it is angled in the best way to properly tuck under your cervix.
Once you can no longer push the disc further, take a finger or thumb and push the front rim of the disc up as high as it can tuck.
Because this disc is on the larger diameter side of the”one size” discs and it’s soft, you might find it more difficult to push into place than a firmer disc. It’s our tip to really PUSH the front rim into place as high as you can even when it feels a little scary!

Best Way to Remove Poppins Period
Reach inside the vagina and feel for the handle of the disc. Pinch the loop or hook behind the handle.
To reduce the mess, pull the Poppins Period disc up towards you while removing so it falls out from the back of the disc and not into your hand.
Try removing your disc in the shower for your first try – it can take practice before you find the best removal method for you.
Poppins Period Disc Review
I tried the Poppins Period disc for a day in November since it arrived too late for my full period, and I used it the entire period in December.
The Good:
- Comfortable
- Removal Handle was usually easy to find
- Generous Capacity
- Autodumping worked
- Stayed in place (did not rotate during wear)
The Bad:
- Larger diameter (not the best fit for ME)
- Soft – insertion wasn’t always easy
- Consistent light leaks
