Two examples of diaphragm inserter/removal tools estimated to be from the 1950s. Each tool is deisgned to stretch the rim of the diaphragm and elongate it to an oval for a narrower fit and thus easier insertion. Each rung is designed to fit either smaller or larger diaphragms.
The opposite side of one tool also has a hook, this would be used to grasp the rim of the diaphragm for removal.
